The catch: auto top-ups are charged at full price, even if you paid for your first plan partly with credits or a discount code.

Running out of data halfway through a day abroad is annoying. Saily’s Auto top-up fixes that by buying more data for you the moment your plan runs dry. Here’s how it works, how to switch it on, and how to switch it off again.

What is Saily Auto Top-Up?

Saily’s Top-up button sits on the eSIM screen, right under your current plan, between Add data and the phone number options. It gives you two choices:

  • Top-up now: a one-time purchase of a plan similar to your first one, using the same payment details.
  • Auto top-up: a recurring option that renews your data plan automatically once you use it up.

Which options you see depends on the status of your current plan.

How to turn on Auto top-up

  1. Open the eSIMs tab in the Saily app.
  2. Select the eSIM you want to use it on.
  3. Tap the Top-up button.
  4. Select Auto top-up and choose the plan to enable it for.
  5. Choose whether it runs once or every time you run out of data, then tap Save.
  6. Confirm by tapping Top-up.

After the loading screen, a green dot on the Top-up button shows that Auto top-up is active.

How to turn off Auto top-up

  1. Open the eSIMs tab in the Saily app.
  2. Select the eSIM and tap Top-up.
  3. Tap Cancel auto top-up and confirm.

When it finishes loading, the green dot disappears. That’s how you know nothing will renew.

What it costs

Auto top-up buys the same kind of plan again, so the price is that plan’s price. For example, Saily’s Spain plan is $3.99 for 1 GB (7 days) and $9.99 for 5 GB (30 days), checked on saily.com on 24 Oct 2026. One rule to watch: if you bought your first plan partly with credits or a discount code, the automatic top-up is charged at full price.

Notifications

Saily sends a push notification each time an Auto top-up succeeds or fails. Leave notifications on for the Saily app, so a failed payment doesn’t leave you offline without warning.

Should you use it?

Turn it on if

you use a lot of data, rely on maps and rides, or travel somewhere you can’t easily stop to buy more. Choosing once gives you one safety net without open-ended charges.

Leave it off if

you’d rather decide each time, you’re on a tight budget, or the trip is almost over. You can always top up by hand in a minute.

Trip finished?

Cancel Auto top-up before you go home. Otherwise it can keep renewing if the eSIM keeps using data.

If you used a code for your first plan, see how to use a Saily voucher or coupon code. Codes don’t carry over to auto top-ups.
