Rome runs on Saily’s Italy plans, from $3.99 for 1 GB. For a few days in the city, 3 GB ($8.99) covers maps, transit and messaging.
The catch: plans are data only, so you get no local phone number for calls or texts.
Rome is best on foot, from the Colosseum to Trastevere and the Vatican, and you’ll use maps, bus routes and timed tickets all day. An Italy eSIM is ready at Fiumicino and keeps working on trains to Florence or Naples.
