GigSky sells a Cuba eSIM plan; Saily doesn’t. GigSky’s Cuba eSIM connects to Cubacel, Cuba’s local network, and you can install it at home so it’s ready when you land.
The catch: it’s data only, with no calls, SMS or Cuban number.
Getting online in Cuba takes more planning than most destinations. Some travel eSIM brands, Saily included, don’t sell a Cuba plan. GigSky does, and you set it up before the trip.
Why use an eSIM in Cuba
GigSky’s own Cuba guide warns that Wi-Fi there is unreliable: airport connections drop, hotel networks can be very slow, and public Wi-Fi parks need prepaid cards. Mobile data on your phone avoids most of that. With an eSIM you also skip a trip to a phone shop after you land.
GigSky’s Cuba eSIM at a glance
- Network: GigSky says it connects to Cubacel’s 4G network.
- Data only: there are no regular calls or SMS. WhatsApp and FaceTime work over data.
- Activation: the phone connects to Cubacel automatically when you land, with data roaming on.
- Free trial: new users get a free 100 MB plan at sign-up, with no credit card needed, for a limited time.
- Discounts: GigSky’s site says plans are up to 30% off, and its blog says eligible Visa cards get 20% to 30% off in the app.
GigSky Cuba prices
We couldn’t read GigSky’s live Cuba prices on its website. Plans load in the app, and GigSky’s blog posts have listed different Cuba prices over time. Open the GigSky app, find Cuba and check the data, days and price before you travel. Pick a plan size that covers your whole trip.
How to set up GigSky for Cuba
- Check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
- Download the GigSky app, create an account and buy your Cuba plan.
- Install the eSIM at home, at least a few hours before your flight. GigSky suggests the day before.
- When you land, turn on data roaming for the GigSky eSIM. It connects to Cubacel automatically.
Don’t count on installing the eSIM in Cuba. GigSky advises doing it at home because Cuban Wi-Fi is too unreliable for activation.
Tips for staying connected in Cuba
- Buy enough data up front. Topping up depends on having a connection, so start with a plan that covers your trip.
- Save offline maps of Havana and the towns you’ll visit before you fly.
- Keep bookings offline. Screenshot hotel and transfer details in case data drops.
- Turn off your home line’s data after landing to avoid roaming charges from your carrier.
Visiting Cuba on a cruise?
If Cuba is one stop on a cruise, look at GigSky’s Cruise + Land plans, which work at sea and in port. Check in the app that your cruise line and route are listed. Our Caribbean cruise eSIM guide explains how they work.
What about Saily?
Saily has no Cuba plan: its Cuba page returns a “not found” error, and Cuba isn’t in its Caribbean Islands plan. For the rest of the region, see our Dominican Republic guide or the Saily Jamaica review.
Prefer a physical card? You can buy a local SIM in person after you arrive. Our eSIM vs physical SIM guide covers the trade-offs.
