Athens runs on Saily’s Greece plans, from $4.49 for 1 GB. For a few days in the city, 3 GB ($9.99) covers maps, transit and messaging.
The catch: plans are data only, so you get no local phone number for calls or texts.
Athens is a walking city: the Acropolis, Plaka and the museums are close together, and the Metro runs from the airport to Syntagma. A Greece eSIM keeps maps and ferry bookings on your phone if you head on to the islands.
